Au th\u00e9\u00e2tre Paramount de Brooklyn, face \u00e0 une mar\u00e9e humaine vibrant d\u2019esp\u00e9rance, Zohran Mamdani a prononc\u00e9 un discours dont le souffle et l\u2019ambition s’imposent comme le point de d\u00e9part d\u2019une \u00e8re nouvelle pour la m\u00e9tropole. Il devient le 111\u1d49 maire de New York, frappant par l\u2019histoire comme le plus jeune \u00e9lu depuis un si\u00e8cle, et par la symbolique : premier musulman, premier Sud\u2011Asiatique \u00e0 la t\u00eate de la ville.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Dans une ville b\u00e2tie par les migrations, les luttes et les contradictions, son \u00e9lection r\u00e9sonne comme un retour \u00e0 l\u2019essentiel : gouverner pour les oubli\u00e9s, parler avec la voix de ceux que l\u2019histoire avait laiss\u00e9s en marge. Le fils d\u2019un r\u00e9fugi\u00e9 ougandais, ancien chauffeur de taxi, devenu maire de la plus grande ville des \u00c9tats-Unis ; voil\u00e0 un r\u00e9cit que seul New York pouvait \u00e9crire, et que Mamdani incarne avec une gravit\u00e9 lucide.<\/p>\n

Son discours n\u2019\u00e9tait ni performatif, ni lisse. Il n\u2019a pas tent\u00e9 de rassurer Wall Street ni de flatter les puissants. Il a parl\u00e9 de loyers intenables, de travailleurs \u00e9puis\u00e9s, de violences polici\u00e8res et de dignit\u00e9 pi\u00e9tin\u00e9e. Il a promis de faire ce que tant d\u2019autres ont \u00e9vit\u00e9 : gouverner sans peur, m\u00eame si cela d\u00e9range.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 ses d\u00e9tracteurs, il n\u2019a oppos\u00e9 ni col\u00e8re ni compromis, mais une v\u00e9rit\u00e9 brute : \u00ab Si vous pensiez que New York continuerait \u00e0 se courber, vous vous \u00eates tromp\u00e9s d\u2019\u00e9poque. \u00bb La salle s\u2019est lev\u00e9e, non par automatisme, mais parce que chaque mot sonnait juste, prononc\u00e9 sans artifice.<\/p>\n

Au-del\u00e0 du symbole, Mamdani arrive avec une strat\u00e9gie. Il veut bloquer les expulsions locatives, taxer les ultra-riches, faire de New York une ville o\u00f9 l\u2019on peut vivre, pas seulement survivre. Il assume un projet de transformation radicale, au sens noble du terme, prendre la ville \u00e0 sa racine pour la soigner.<\/p>\n

Loin des figures classiques du pouvoir, sa posture est habit\u00e9e, incarn\u00e9e, presque po\u00e9tique par moments. Il ne parle pas comme un maire, il parle comme un homme dont la vie enti\u00e8re a pr\u00e9par\u00e9 ce moment.<\/p>\n

Reste \u00e0 voir si la ville, souvent cruelle envers ceux qu\u2019elle c\u00e9l\u00e8bre trop t\u00f4t, lui laissera l\u2019espace de construire. Mais pour l\u2019heure, un frisson circule dans les avenues : quelque chose vient de changer.<\/p>\n

Et cette fois, ce n\u2019est pas un slogan. C\u2019est une promesse tenue debout, sur sc\u00e8ne, \u00e0 Brooklyn.<\/p>\n
